Get More Time Series #9
What if every time you said you can’t, you instead replaced it with “I won’t”.
Change “I can’t lose weight because I can’t move like I did when I was younger.” to “ I won’t lose weight because I am not willing to take a small walk every night until I can move.”. Change “I can’t get a better job because I don’t have the experience to get one.” to “I won’t get a better job because I am not willing to knock down every door in this city until I do find someone willing to take a chance on me.”. We force ourselves to resolve to “I can’t” because we won’t. It merely comes down to that.
Anything in life is possible, it’s just that some things take a lot more energy, time and resources to get done. Life is ours to behold yet we set up barriers because we only believe that we can’t possibly do it. We get into the habit of resisting change because change sometimes hurts. We avoid taking on bigger tasks in life because we don’t believe we are worthy. We say that we can’t-do things when in reality we can, but we just aren’t willing to do it. Thing is, it is ok to say “I won’t do that”. If you really do not believe we can’t-do something, then just say you won’t and be truthful with your reason.
When you replace “I can’t” with “I won’t” and add a reason why you won’t, you will possibly motivate yourself into doing it, or you will learn to accept your limitations. You will find more time in your day if you learn to be more deliberate with your excuses. Simply saying “I can’t” only leaves the door open and saying “I won’t” commits.
ACTIVITY – How many of us waste so much of our lives trying to be accepted, yet we don’t work hard enough to accept ourselves? It is really tough to recognize that what you are doing in life is not for you and it is even tougher to do things for you.
