My three promises to you….
- I promise that I will keep listening to what our clients and prospective clients are saying about our culture and our products. I once heard a great quote: “You can’t fill up a bottle of water if the cap is on.”
- I promise that I will make every effort to help our clients get back to work and find new ways of making our products easier and more fun to use so that they don’t waste time tracking time.
- I promise that I will always be conscious of ways to build a product that will help make your time more meaningful.
With this last promise, I’m reminded of something that just happened to me recently that I would like to share with you. As it sometimes happens, and because I can be a little headstrong with my opinions, a colleague and I got into a rather “colorful” discussion. As I was walking back to my office after the meeting, I planned to write a serious email to drive home my point of view. But just then, a thought hit me! Instead of taking an hour to write an emotional email and waste a lot of energy and time out of my colleague’s day, perhaps I should go to my timesheet and describe the ‘Value’ of this task before I start. This made a lot more sense to me.
So how could I give my time more meaning and more value?
After trying to describe the value of the email, I quickly understood that writing that email would provide no value to me, my colleague or Dovico. So I paused, re-focused, and wrote a ‘Give Time Meaning’ topic in a Seth Godin Marketing Seminar that I’m taking online (our wonderful CEO and culture coach, Yves recommended I take this seminar. Yves also is setting the tone for this new way of thinking within our company). Well… as it turns out, I received so much positive energy from all the wonderful comments on that topic that it completely changed my day and my week! It provided me with so much energy that I was able to share it with my colleagues, my children, and my friends!
To me, that’s the meaning of ‘giving time meaning’.
